We're closing in on our date with destiny.. November 7th in Al Bas aka the Queen Charlotte Rooms in Leith, Edinburgh. We have recruited strongly and are preparing mission orders and started casting - we are good to go Orange and Blue Leader!

There might just be time left to snatch a last minute spot on the roster if you are quick (end of day Saturday 24th October at the very latest but no guarantee tickets will last until then!) and we have more than enough players signed up already to run the game but if you were swithering about joining the rebellion - Act Now!

Head here for tickets and read on for more info!

More background info is in our initial post please do check this out if you haven't already!

Not so long ago in a Glen not so far away…

Welcome to Rebel Country: Squadron of Rogues. A megagame loosely based on Star Wars Andor, wholly inspired by Scotland and the current political and cultural climate we find ourselves in.

Designed to interrogate (pun intended) themes of resistance and rebellion and provoke thoughts of what it takes to foster community, collectivity and an ethical, sustainable, living culture and future for us all. Although some will have to temporarily embody the power of the dark side…

Of course most importantly we will be providing some high stakes fun and games for all factions, Imperial, Rebel or otherwise!

Deliberately taking place shortly after the latest mid-term elections in the USA, in a time of turbulence when the importance of standing up is unquestioned; ABS (MFWG Founder) and Ciaran aka Son of One Eye (co-designer and all around Jedi!) have designed the game to highlight the potential strengths and pitfalls of forming common bonds to resist structures of oppression/galactic overlords.

Designing the experience to draw upon real life strategies of political and social resistance with game design principles that immerse players and get them to inhabit the roles and question the value of various factions and stratagems.

Taking inspiration from, and engagement with, the campaign against (literal) power grabbing AI data centre roll outs in Scotland; especially the work of APRS (Action to Protect Rural Scotland), the campaigning group Stop AI Data Centres Scotland and Global Justice Now’s campaign around Scotland Resisting Big Tech. ABS in particular by attending rallies at the Scottish Parliament, and Ciaran on related and also more personal notes, aspiring to conspire against the tech oligarchs increasingly impacting our lives…

We have envisaged a universe where the Imperial powers, amidst unceasing internal turmoil, are just about presenting a united front to take over the moisture rich planet of Al Bas, home of ancient traditions and modern clans…

This Empire seeks to exploit the natural resources of Al Bas, wide and water rich spaces, an ideal site for hyperscale galactic data banks… no matter what the cost…

To get an idea of what to expect allow us to set the scene:

Squadron of Rogues is an all-day megagame approx. 10am to 5pm (with breaks), with an opportunity for relaxed food, drinks, and socialising afterwards in the venue, should you wish.

It will be a roller coaster of a day, intense, adrenaline-filled and challenging as well as a whole lot of fun and an opportunity to reflect on what it means to resist. As such, we would say it is suitable for 16+ and those seeking a more adventurous day! We will have theming/décor and AV atmospherics in our wonderful central Leith venue, the Queen Charlotte Rooms , close to public transport and other amenities for pre- and post-game refuelling.

Costumes are encouraged but not compulsory as you join the other players in a large-scale simulation game with approx. 60 folks in various teams, factions, friends and foes. The day will blend elements of role-playing games like Dungeons and Dragons, tabletop board games, and live action role-playing (LARPs)/cosplaying, improv and intrigue - you can lean into these elements as much as you want and no prior knowledge is needed.

You will be organised into teams/factions with specific roles and objectives, interacting within a loosely structured game narrative over the course of a day. You will have the opportunity to play with your friends or family who come with you as well as the other players. It will be an out of this world experience but a bustling and dramatic day so be prepared for a fun and adventure filled experience - not a restful day!

We will be prompting but not requiring thoughts of what it means to rebel and resist and possible strategies for fighting against fascist forces and how to create a cohesive community... but also how the power of the dark side can corrupt.

We do not have a fully accessible venue, unfortunately, but we will do our best to accommodate any accessibility requests or if cost is an issue or for press requests please reach out to us via email
