Megagames

Mechanical Chonk-a-Lonk say Crisis, what Crisis Mars...

MFWG is now making MEGAGAMES... (designed to be said out loud in a voice similar to the narrator from Ulysses 31..)

What are Megagames you ask? Well here are a couple of handy primers from Megagame Makers and on Wikipedia and to quote from the latter 'A megagame (sometimes capitalised as Megagame or MegaGame) is a type of large-scale simulation which can contain elements of role-playing games, tabletop games, LARPs and wargames. Megagames are typically played by 30-100 players over the course of a full day. Participants are often arranged into hierarchies of teams cooperating or competing towards various objectives.'

First up we have been working with MFWG friend, and amongst many other things, experienced Megagame Designer, Ciaran O'Sullivan aka Son of One Eye

This is an all-day megagame approx. 10am to 5pm (with breaks), with an opportunity for relaxed food, drinks, and socialising afterwards in the venue, should you wish.

This will be a roller coaster of a day, intense, adrenaline-filled and challenging as well as a whole lot of fun and an opportunity to reflect on what it means to resist. As such, we would say it is suitable for 16+ and those seeking a more adventurous day! We will have theming/décor and AV atmospherics in our wonderful central Leith venue, close to public transport and other amenities for pre- and post-game refuelling.

Costumes are encouraged but not compulsory as you join the other players in a large-scale simulation game with approx. 60 folks in various teams, factions, friends and foes. The day will blend elements of role-playing games like Dungeons and Dragons, tabletop board games, and live action role-playing (LARPs)/cosplaying, improv and intrigue - you can lean into these elements as much as you want and no prior knowledge is needed.

You will be organised into teams/factions with specific roles and objectives, interacting within a loosely structured game narrative over the course of a day. You will have the opportunity to play with your friends or family who come with you as well as the other players. It will be an out of this world experience but a bustling and dramatic day so be prepared for a fun and adventure filled experience - not a restful day!

Set on the moisture rich planet of Al Bas, join this battle of wits and for resources. We will be prompting but not requiring thoughts of what it means to rebel and resist and possible strategies for fighting against fascist forces and how to create a cohesive community... but also how the power of the dark side can corrupt.

Sound interesting? Join us on November 7th in Edinburgh in the wonderful Queen Charlotte Rooms located close to major public transport routes in Leith! Tickets available here.
